PROGRAM

Kathy Smith, Tree Specialist and Horticulturist, will speak at the AAUW Branch meeting.  She holds a BA in Forest Resource Management from OSU and an MA in Natural Resource Management.  She joined the faculty in 2001.  She is the program Director for the Ohio Woodland Stewards Program.  She is responsible for the Ohio woodland owners and natural resources professionals.  Please join us Tuesday, March 22 at 5:45 in the Koch Room, Pickaway County Library.

PRESIDENT’S LETTER

Since we have not met since November, this letter will highlight current and future events-to help us remember what may have been forgotten during the winter.

MARCH EVENTS

The first event was a donation to Hope House.  Community Kitchen donated a pancake dinner for the residents.

The AAUW Book Club met at the Pickaway Library at 10:30 a.m. March 8 to discuss the book, Caste by Isabel Wilkerson.  Jane Poulson led the discussion.

On March 16, members of the branch will volunteer at the Community Kitchen.  Alice Harker has the names of the members who have volunteered to serve.

Celebrate Women 2022 will meet at Ohio University-Lancaster all day on Friday March 25.  A live conference, you may register on line at ohio.edu/celebrate-women or call Debby and she will copy the application for you.

The Spring 2022 AAUW Convention will meet on zoom or in person at All Saints Lutheran Church on April 1 and 2.  Friday, April 1 will be a book discussion on Impact Players by Liz Wiseman on zoom at 7:00 p.m.  At 8:00 p.m., the candidates for the next year’s AAUW state board will be introduced.

Saturday, April2 will begin with meet and greet at 9:30 a.m.  An informal breakfast will be available.  Following the President’s welcome  message at 10:30, the Circleville Branch is presenting a leadership forum.  Jean Droste and Carolyn Seitz will be presenting as well as others from Ohio.  Debby will provide information that coordinates all the speakers’ presentations.  Lunch will be provided by Freedom ala Carte and there will be a talk about women’s finances.  Presentations on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will begin at 1:00.  We hope that many of you will attend the convention and serve as delegates to vote for the new slate of officers.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Governor Mike DeWine 11 organizations will receive more than 1.3 million in grants to develop and implement human trafficking prevention programs.  The grants are from a collaboration between the Governor’s Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force, the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund, and the Department of Jobs and Family Services.

AAUW BOOK GROUP

The AAUW Book Group will meet at 10:30 a.m. on April 12 at the Pickaway County Lbrary. They will discuss Follow the River by James Alexsnder Thom.

The novel is based on a true story of a Virginia woman, Mary Ingles, who was kidnapped by the Shawnee Indians.  Its painful detail is based on a diary discovered by chance.
